MEC statement on transportation issues raised in Gov. Rick Snyder’s State of the State address

Jan 16, 2013
The Michigan Environmental Council agrees with Gov. Rick Snyder that the time is now to fix the shortcomings in Michigan’s funding mechanisms to implement a transportation system that is necessary for our state to be competitive in the 21st Century.

“We need to build a transportation system that is a catalyst for economic vitality and quality of life in Michigan,” said Chris Kolb, MEC president. “That means more than simply funding for roads and bridges. It must encompass a strategic mix of transportation options that will maintain our current roads and bridges, increase support for public transit, link our cities by rail, and provide safe routes for walking and biking in our communities.”
